On-The-Water Living, Boaters’ Paradise, Private Doc, Instant Ocean Access

Sense of Place

Living in Hawai‘i Kai is all about access to one of O‘ahu’s most precious resources, the warm and inviting Pacific Ocean. Comprised by an expansive private marina surrounded by a wide range of waterfront single-family homes and condominiums with private boat docks, quaint neighborhoods stretching back into verdant valleys and ridgeline properties with amazing views, Hawaii Kai is located on the scenic southeastern tip of O‘ahu, a region defined by its breathtaking geography. Valley communities push up against the base of the dramatic Ko‘olau Mountains. Neighborhoods spread at the base of the prominent Koko Crater. The Mariner’s Ridge mountaintop community, with expansive single-family homes, is privy to some of the most striking views of Maunalua Bay, Diamond Head to the west, and neighbor islands to the east. If you love being surrounded by water set beside idyllic tropical scenery, you’ll love Hawai‘i Kai.

Lifestyle

With a quick push off from your private dock, you’re on your way through the marina and out into the shallow and protected waters of Maunalua Bay. Once a wetland estuary, native Hawaiians sustainably fished these waters for centuries, and today that tradition continues. With an additional public boat ramp at Maunalua Bay Beach Park and several private boat ramps throughout the marina community, this is the area’s launching point for deep sea fishing and SCUBA diving. Surfers enjoy the many reef breaks that dot the bay and paddlers launch their outrigger canoes from shore for sunrise or sunset paddles. Wade across the sandbar at low tide and explore the Kuli‘ou‘ou bird refuge. The marina is also home to three outdoor shopping centers and a host of locally owned restaurants, including the iconic Roy’s Hawaii Kai, the flagship restaurant of Roy Yamaguchi, one of the chefs credited with developing Hawai‘i Regional Cuisine. For the outdoor adventurous, hike the 1,050 steps to the top of Koko Crater for 360-degree views you won’t find anywhere else on the island. And just past the crater awaits the Kaiwi State Scenic Shoreline with ample hiking, fishing, and outlooks perfect for whale watching.
